Kicking off the New Year with a BANG!

The Mayor of London’s New Year’s Eve Fireworks marked the 3rd year of involvement for BAFTA-winning Lighting Designer Tim Routledge. This year, he called upon Lights Control Rigging to bring his extraordinary vision to life. Broadcast on The BBC, the event commemorated 2024’s most pivotal moments.

Tim’s challenge was monumental: to programme a beat-perfect light show with sound, a mighty firework display and dynamic motion graphics.

In just under three days, all 32 pods of the London Eye were installed with Ayrton’s groundbreaking MAMBAs and Chauvet Professional’s Color STRIKE M. Each night, the pods were installed and packed away again to ensure the Eye remained open to the public, with only 25 seconds available for setup per pod!

“The LCR team have got navigating those restrictions and getting the fixtures in place at speed to a fine art.” praised Tim Routledge, highlighting the crew’s efficiency and expertise.

A wireless DMX system, designed to perform under challenging conditions and across vast distances, brought the MAMBAs and Color STRIKE Ms to life. Data was seamlessly transmitted from the LumenRadio Stardust units on the pier to the LumenRadio Auroras in each pod.

The event marked the debut of the world’s first Ayrton MAMBAs at the UK’s largest celebration.

We also lined Queen’s Walk and Waterloo Pier with Ayrton Cobras and Chauvet Professional Color STRIKE M’s, while Robe iForte LTX units illuminated the Eye from a pontoon on the Thames, creating a stunning visual spectacle that captivated millions around the globe.

Despite battling torrential rain and fierce winds, our incredible team worked tirelessly to ensure a flawless production.
And as the clock struck midnight, Tim’s masterful lighting design amplified the message of hope, unity, and acceptance, harmonising with explosive pyrotechnics, immersive sound and captivating projections.

A huge thanks to both Tim and the amazing team at Identity Global for getting us involved.
